Deanne Tremlett: Artist Statement

I am inspired, quite evidently, by the naked human form. It is to me the most equal of states. Life laid bare. The individuals are painted from my head with just memory for reference as all the figures depicted, though imagined, are put together from real people. Although I do not meet a huge amount of naked people every day I must admit! I do however tend to imagine almost everybody I meet with their clothes off...

The figures are used, via their form and positioning, to convey an emotion. This depends on the viewer, obviously, but I do try to manipulate their emotional response through the use of colour, expression and texture. I find myself particularly interested in the mood created by the awkward positioning and truncation of limbs. The situations that I base my figures in are not only my own experience but those I know of second hand and observe in people around and close to me, past and present.
