Dee Dee Littrell was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1950. After completing school, she lived in England for three years and traveled extensively throughout Europe. The works of artists such as Matisse, van Gogh, and Cezanne as well as the German expressionist school that she viewed in the museums of Europe greatly influenced her paintings as did the countryside itself. She began working in the watercolor medium after her return to the states, finding that the translucent nature and brilliant colors were most suited for the landscape and subjects of the Southwest, where she and her family lived for a few years.
She returned to her native South in 1981 and has remained there. The subjects and nature of her paintings have changed; primarily from landscapes to objects that are very familiar to her, placed together in such a way that are at times completely out of context. However, the surfaces are richly colored as were her landscapes and describe her surroundings.
She has been included in many important exhibitions throughout the country and was recently chosen Finalist in the portrait competition of The Artist's Magazine. She is a Signature Member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections throughout the country.
