Idaherma Williams Extracts Poetry from Woodblocks
By Gordon Dane

Idaherma Williams reflects the beauty and balance between the intemal world of dreams and the outer world of physicality in original, hand-carved wood block prints. Windows open to reveal the soul and poetry of her subjects which range from common place objects to ancient, complex symbols. In "Rainy Day", for example, branches of trees stretch like fingers to the sky that gently sheds lines of tears. Golden yellow peeks through deep and misty blues. The frame in inky black against light is only one of many complementary forces at work. Her forms speak dramatically about paradoxes and harmonies. She has exhibited her work in major national and international shows, including an exchange show to Russia and an international exhibit in Canada. Her work is being featured in a group show at The Art Gallery, Gloucester County College, Sewell, NJ, December 8January 14. All of her prints are created without a press, for which she is widely recognized by collectors around the world. She is also known for her watercolors and paintings on silk.
